What does an equity research analyst do?
Equity research analysts provide organisations with in-depth economic analysis and insights into publicly traded companies. They analyse fiscal data, prepare detailed reports and make recommendations to investors, fund managers and other company stakeholders.
The primary role of equity research analysts is to analyse financial statements, perform valuations and develop economic models to forecast future performance. Their ability to interpret complex financial data and predict market movements is key to identifying investment opportunities and managing risks.
In India’s dynamic economic landscape, where market volatility is high, their expertise helps them understand market trends, make crucial investment decisions and provide the analytical foundation for investment strategies.
Do note that equity research analysts are different from financial analysts. While financial analysts focus on broader economic planning and analysis, equity research analysts specialise in stock evaluation and investment opportunities. Based on the research provided by equity research analysts, portfolio managers (another similar job role) manage investment portfolios and make buy/sell decisions.
