How Trafikverket modernised their talent strategy to recruit for today, and in the future
SUCCESS STORY
As a government authority, Trafikverket has historically had a strong focus on steady, organic growth. But when they needed to recruit 3,000 people in a short period of time, they leaned into LinkedIn for support. They were looking to fill these positions in highly-specialised areas like engineering, transport and sustainability. LinkedIn was on hand to partner with Trafikverket during this unprecedented growth period as they sought highly-qualified talent in a competitive market.
THE CHALLENGE
Finding the right people, fast in a competitive market
Market data showed that labour shortages and increased competition for talent was making the recruitment process more difficult. This, mixed with a traditional approach to recruiting and processes meant Trafikverket were struggling to find enough candidates and – crucially – the right candidates with the right skills for the jobs they were listing. The company knew they would need new tools to be competitive within the candidate market and to meet future recruitment needs.
THE SOLUTION
Building a more robust and data-led hiring process with LinkedIn Talent Solutions
When it came to hiring, Trafikverket no longer saw a benefit in posting jobs on traditional sites. They were receiving fewer qualified applicants, while the talent they needed was instead waiting for recruiters to come to them. They wanted to attract top tier talent in specialised fields like engineering, and transport, with strong analytical skills.
While their target audience weren’t necessarily all on LinkedIn to look for new career opportunities, Trafikverket knew these target groups were using the platform for professional development. This is where they came to network, connect, learn and share their insights. LinkedIn gave Trafikverket the ability to work with a range of complementary tools so they could post vacancies and reach talent, all while actively searching for the right candidates. By using LinkedIn’s Enterprise Program, recruiters could post an infinite number of job ads which positively impacted the visibility of their ads. Views went up, and ads were shown for longer. Not only did Trafikverket gain the ability to post more jobs, but Trafikverket’s talent team were able to engage passive and active candidates more easily and make decisions quickly by leveraging best practices.
Trafikverket were then able to build their employer brand on LinkedIn, ensuring it’s seen by specific target groups. LinkedIn also provided the opportunity to interact with their own employees and engage them as brand ambassadors to share their message across LinkedIn.
In addition to this, Talent Insights provided a strategic tool for Trafikverket to make informed talent decisions with real-time insights and to know where to look for candidates and where to recruit from. It offered continuous insights and feedback to help them understand what the labour market landscape looked like at any given time. It also provided new perspectives into how they could develop their recruitment work. Recruiters could start a search forum to share best practices with one another, while working closely with the Talent Solutions team at LinkedIn to develop their processes.
